TEETH WHITENING-BLEACHING

Teeth have a layer called the acquired pellicle, designed to protect the more sensitive parts. Yet, this is where stains emerge. Teeth whitening and dental cleaning remove this barrier temporarily and open the enamel’s pores in the process. It takes 24 hours for the layer to regenerate itself and as such, the longevity of whitening hinges on the 48 hours following the procedure. After the bleaching, some people may have tooth sensitivity that lasts within 1-3 days and the following listed below should be avoided:

  • - Coffee and/or tea
  • - Tobacco products
  • - Mustard or ketchup
  • - Coke
  • - Red wine/bee
  • - Soy/curry sauce
  • - Berry pie
  • - Red sauces

What Can You Eat During And After These 48 Hours?

Anything that’s white or light in color and non-acidic is less likely to stain. Be sure to have a sufficient supply of milk, pasta, rice, egg, fish, potato, yogurt, bread, oatmeal etc.

Once the 48-hour period passes, consider supplementing these foods with lighter-colored fruits like apples, bananas and crunchy, acid-neutralizing vegetables like carrots and green beans.

To Maintain Your Shining Smile:

- Be sure to brush and floss each day and clean off your tongue.

- Avoid staining related habits.
